  • Grubbs World

It's been a little while, so here is a quick catch up on the Grubbs household...

Anniversary/Softball:  Will and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary, which was really great.  We went to the Barter to see Sweeney Todd, which we were a little reluctant about.  Neither of us had ever seen a thriller live before.  However, it was awesome.  We loved it.  The gore was pretty abstract, but the talent was amazing.  We also had dinner at Alison's.  I have to admit when we drove up we were a little scared.  Alison's doesn't look like a great place to eat, but the food was delicious.  We had the famous potato soup and a steak and desert, all included with our Barter gift certificate.  The whole night was just fun.   Then...we had to drive 2 hours to Roanoke for a weekend softball tournament.  Doesn't sound very romantic, but it was fun.  The team placed 4th out of 38.  Not too bad.  And all this was possible because we have great parents (on both sides) who are willing to step in when we need help with the kiddos.  We are very blessed.

Soccer:  We have been trying to encourage Isaac to take on some sporting activities, because he has a lot of athletic ability in him (which comes from his dad, no question).  He has always said no and that he does not want to play.  Will brought this up around his sister who just happens to coach Kindersoccer and told Will to bring him to the practice.  We did and of course the whole way Isaac said he would not play....until Tracy put a ball in front of him and of course the male in him took over and he was on the field in a flash.  I registered him last night and bought his shoes and shin guards today.  He is so excited.  He didn't want to take them off.  So, we shall see what happens.

Twilight:  I was recently persuaded to read the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyers by a blog one of my friends had.  I read the first 2 books in 3 weeks and I am almost half way through the 3rd one (and they are pretty big books).  I am addicted.  The series was written more for teens, but I love it and cannot wait to see the 1st movie  to come out in November.  Never thought I would like a series about Vampires, but I do.  I'll be sad when I'm done with them.

So, that is pretty much all I guess.  I leave for the beach in 11 days or so and I am hoping and praying that all the storms headed to the coast go away before then.

    Until next time...

  • Where to begin...

    Angie's Book Review:

I've been reading this book called, "The Shack".  A friend of mine told me about and then later that same night a lady in my Bible study started talking about it, so I decided I should check it out.  I didn't know much about the story when I bought it.  After reading the intro. to the book I was further intrigued.  I read half of the book the first night and finished it within the next 2 nights.  It starts out like a regular novel.  There is some humor, a little mystery and of course, tragedy.  Then it takes a major turn towards incredible.  This man truly believes he encounters God and in a way that you would never dream of.  As it transitioned into the God encounter, I found myself at first rolling my eyes and sort of thinking that it was a little ridiculous, but the more I read the more it captivated me.  The more I read the more I found myself hoping that this encounter did truly happen and in the end found myself a little bit jealous that I haven't had such an encounter.  "The Shack" is an amazing read full of hope, beauty and love.  I laughed, I cried like a baby and several times I would just close my eyes and think about something I had just read.  I strongly recommend this book to everyone.  (Walmart has it for $11.)  I will pass my copy on to my mom now, and see what she has to say about it.

    The Kids:

Well, Isaac starts a regular schedule at school today.  He is so thrilled.  He went yesterday for half a day and actually had a little bit of homework when he got home.  He thought he was the stuff and probably told Elijah about his homework a hundred times.  Of course, Elijah decided he needed some work to do, too so we gave him some paper and a pen.  They worked so hard.  It was so cute!  I wonder how long it will take for that homework excitement to go away?  I'm guessin 2 weeks.

When I picked Isaac up yesterday I parked at a church that is right next door, rather than waiting in a very long line of cars.  I just walked down to get him and on the way back up I showed him a path that goes through a graveyard that is located behind the church.  I told him it was a secret passage way to Gi Gi's house.  He got the biggest smile on his face.  Last night he asked me if I would walk through the "boneyard" to come get him today.  I guess I may have to get Gi Gi and take a walk.  It's been several years since I have walked that path.

So, it's race week and things are busy here at work.  That, too is exciting.  Lots of people coming to town and lots of people coming here at the church to camp.  Pray that these people see Jesus through us while they are here!

  • Funny Kidz

We are watching the Olympics and the synchronized diving is on.  The boys think it is sooo cool.  They have piled every pillow in the house on our couch to make themselves a high dive and are "diving" onto the floor.  Boys!

Isaac has his first half day of school tomorrow.  The first day we actually have to leave him there.  I just can't believe it, but his is stoked!  We went school supply shopping and put his backpack together and discussed what he wanted in his lunch box - he is ready.  Of course, he may think different when we have to wake him up so early tomorrow morning.  That in itself is a big adjustment, for all of us.  I think he will really like his teacher.  We really like her, so that helps a lot.

Elijah, well he is just Elijah.  What can I say?  Isaac's teacher made the comment at orientation that she has not had a kid yet that has made her want to jump out the window and run away.  Will and I just looked at each other, because in 2 years she might have our little Elijah.  They better just go ahead and nail her windows shut so she can't get out.  He is the most stubborn, mischievous kid I know.  His new favorite thing is to verbally discipline Isaac.  You can imagine how that goes over.

Well, let's get ready for tomorrow.  See ya!

  • Shank, Divot, Fore!

So, I went to the driving range today and all the words above can describe how that went.  Dear bessie, do I need practice.  It was depressing.  My sis has gotten pretty good.  She has been playing a lot more.  I on the other hand seemed to get worse as the day went on.  Not fair!  I have a callus on my hand.  I grip to hard.  The golf pro at the country club told me I needed to drink before I hit the golf course so I could lighten up a bit.  Wouldn't it be funny if I drank and actually became good at golf?  Seriously, I need a glove, clubs that are the right size and whole lots of practice.  Golf is just one of those sports that you just want to be good at.  I am not giving up!  Nope, I will keep making a fool of myself until I get good or until they tell me I can't come back.

  • Here we go again...

I think I have the most indecisive kid on the planet.  Isaac changed his mind again and now has decided he wants a baseball room rather than a cars room.  Geez!  Thankfully I had not yet purchased any of the super cute car things I found.  The other good news is that the original quilt I bought when he thought he wanted a train room - before he wanted a cars room - will work beautifully with baseball.  So, here I go again looking for room decor.  This is the final change!  I am still going to stay with the vintage look.  I love that look and feel.

Last night I had some girlfriends over for game night.  We played Apples To Apples and Taboo.  Lots of junk food and laughing.  I love spending time with the girls.  It is a blast.  Today, I am heading to JC with my sis and friend, Kristen, to see Mama Mia again.  I'm excited.

Will's knee has healed nicely.  He even cleaned the house for me this week.  He mopped the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, pressure washed the sidewalk, all kinds of stuff.  He said he didn't know when I would be able to get to anything so he helped me.  I kinda like him being at home.  He's a good hubby.  Thanks for all the prayers and calls.

About Me

  • I am married to Will, who is a wonderful husband and dad to our 2 boys, Isaac & Elijah. I am the administrator at Avoca Christian Church...my second home. I love spending time with my family and friends. God has surrounded me with some amazing people.

Words to Encourage:

"Here We have a great high priest, who has gone into heaven, and he is Jesus the Son of God. That is why we must hold on to what we have said about him. Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help." Hebrews 4:14-16
